Gym Instructor

This is the baseline qualification required by the Leisure Industry for those who wish to become a gym instructor. 

 The course covers a range of subjects such as:

  UNIT 1 Exercise and Fitness Knowledge:

                   ó  Components of fitness

                    ó  Heart, lungs and circulatory systems

                    ó  Skeletal system

                    ó  Neuromuscular system

                    ó  Energy systems

                    ó  Kinesiology

                    ó  Pre-activity screening

UNIT 2 Health, safety and professionalism in exercise and fitness instruction

                    ó  Health and safety

                    ó  Equipment preparation

                    ó  Risk assessment and management

                    ó  Emergency situations

                    ó  Ethical practice

                    ó  Professionalism

UNIT 3 Instructing gym based exercise

                    ó  Warm Up

                    ó  Cardiovascular workout

                    ó  Muscular strength and Endurance

                    ó  Free weights

                    ó  Cool Down and Flexibility

                    ó  Progression

                    ó  Gathering recording and using information

                    ó  Writing a session plan

                    ó  Delivering a session with a client

Assessment:

UNIT 1 - written test

UNIT 2 - series of questions

UNIT 3 - interview a client, complete a case study, plan an exercise session, deliver this session and evaluate it afterwards.

All the candidate's evidence for the qualification will be compiled in a Portfolio and presented to the Assessor.  This will then in turn be internally and externally verified.
