Breakdown of the OCR Level 2 Certificate

The Certificate is Unit based.  Candidates are required to achieve 3 Units in order to achieve the full award.  There are two mandatory units and one optional unit.  The two mandatory units recognise the generic knowledge and skills required by those working in the fitness industry.  The third optional unit is specific to an exercise and fitness context.  The choice of optional unit determines the context in which the qualification is awarded.

Mandatory Units:

Unit 1 Exercise and Fitness Knowledge

Unit 2 Health, Safety and Professionalism in Exercise and Fitness Instruction

Optional Units:

Unit 3 Gym

Unit 4 Exercise to music

There is a further unit for circuits which can be undertaken once either the gym or exercise to music qualification has been completed.

These Units assess the practical skills used in planning and delivering exercise and fitness sessions in specific contexts.

Candidates must complete a minimum of one optional unit.  However they may complete more than one optional unit in order to achieve the qualification in more than one context.
